"Join us in our new “IHN MISSION” here at St.Patricks.”
We are coming up on our second week of our new ministry and we need your help.
St. Patrick’s is involved in a community outreach program that houses homeless families in Worcester called ‘Interfaith Hospitality Network’ or IHN. IHN provides families that are homeless with a support-system which includes safe/free housing, food/meals, household/personal supplies and resources to assist with job searches and financial/budget planning. Along with other faith communities in the Worcester area, St. Patrick’s has committed to two weeks during the year. We supply dinners, fellowship with the guests and evening/night supervision at the house on June Street in Worcester. Our next week will be September 6 -13.
During COVID-19, the Interfaith Hospitality Network follows all CDC guidelines for the safety of the guests and volunteers. Masks are worn, temperatures are taken when entering the house and social distancing is required. I have worked many of these shifts during the covid pandemic and will personally tell you it is very safe. The residents were in lock down most of the pandemic. They recently have gone back to work, but still are maintaining a very safe environment. Your contact with them is as little or as much as you are comfortable with.
For those parishioners interested in learning more about this ministry and how you could be involved – there three ways in which we are looking for help:
1. volunteer to work one of the night or over-night shifts providing supervision. We have two shifts per night for a total of 14 shifts. The first shift is 5:30pm-8:30 pm and second is 8:30pm to 6:30am or 8:30 am if the weekend
2. We are in need of volunteers to provide a meal for one of the nights in Sept. The meals need to feed up to six families.
3. make a monetary donation to the shelter – our parish has made a $2,500 commitment annually to support the expenses of the home.
We have a ZOOM Training meeting on Wednesday, August 19, 6:30 pm EST,please contact the registry or myself for more information.
How can you find out more???? Please contact myself, Gracia Casey, at gcasey144@gmail.com or Fred Beauregard at fbeauregard@unitedsolutions.bz or the registry.
We hope that you will prayerfully consider being a part of this community outreach program and that you continue to pray for the residents, their staff and all of us involved in this ministry. As disciples of Jesus, we are committed to helping those less fortunate, thank you for your thoughts and prayers – God Bless!
