YNIA Chaperone

Thank you for applying to be a chaperone for Young Neighbors in Action! The overall success of each trip and your own satisfaction with this opportunity relies on whether you embrace the following three attitudes:

A willingness to build community with your group intellectually, socially, and spiritually. This involves expected attendance at pre-arranged trip meetings, prayer activities, sending forth masses, and fundraisers.

A respect for the communities we serve by committing ourselves to learn more about the places we will visit, listening fully to the stories of the people we encounter, opening ourselves to grow from the experience, and fully participating in the experience by committing oneself to simple living throughout the trip.

Please fill out the following information.

Young Neighbors in Action offers our teens a week of participating in mission, growing in faith, joining prayer and serving those in need. We are looking for chaperones that will help facilitate these actions.

Specific responsibilities include:

1. Participate in fundraising such as Fall Festival baking, fish and chips, car washes, and the service learning event (i.e. Cardboard Village, 24 Hour Food Famine, etc.)
2. Helping to plan and participate in various YNIA activities throughout the year such as the annual retreat, the send-off mass and the service learning event (i.e. Cardboard Village, 24 Hour Food Famine, etc.)
3. Running one car wash in the spring
4. Accompanying participants and ensuring their safe passage from St. Patrick’s to the program site, and then back to St. Patrick’s
5. At the site: being present at program activities to assist program staff as needed, supervising the youth, assisting the youth with their speeches and presentations, and –most importantly—being a trusted confidant and source of emotional support for all participants, with specific sensitivity to their cultural adjustment process
